Managing Event Emails and Fair Market Value Receipts

For ticketed events where guests receive something of value (a dinner, entertainment, an auction), Canadian and U.S. tax rules require that receipts reflect only the charitable portion of the ticket price — the price minus the Fair Market Value (FMV) of what was received. LevCharity handles this automatically once you configure it.

Setting Fair Market Value

  1. Open your event in the editor.
  2. Go to Tickets and edit a ticket type.
  3. Enter the Fair Market Value for that ticket — for example, if a $200 dinner ticket includes a $75 meal, the FMV is $75, and the charitable portion is $125.
  4. Repeat for each ticket type with a different FMV.

LevCharity will calculate the charitable receipt amount automatically and include it on all receipts sent for that ticket type.

Customizing Event Confirmation Emails

  1. In the event editor, go to the Emails tab.
  2. You'll see pre-built email templates for:
    • Attendee Confirmation — sent immediately after purchase.
    • Event Reminder — sent N days before the event (configurable).
    • Admin Notification — sent to your team when a ticket is purchased.
  3. Click Edit on any template to customize the subject line, body text, and whether the tax receipt is attached.
  4. You can turn individual emails on or off per event without affecting other events or your global defaults.

Global vs. Per-Event Email Settings

LevCharity has two layers of email configuration:

  • Global defaults in the Email Manager apply to all events unless overridden.
  • Per-event settings override the global defaults for that specific event only.

If you make a change in the event's email settings and it doesn't seem to take effect, check that the per-event override is enabled (rather than inheriting from global defaults).

Viewing the Email Log

Every email sent through LevCharity is logged. To view delivery status for a specific event, go to the event's Emails tab and click Email Log. You can see each recipient, send time, and delivery status — useful for troubleshooting if an attendee reports not receiving their confirmation.
